TotalEnergies will increase production of US LNG for import to Europe

12.04.2022

The French company TotalEnergies announced plans to increase LNG production at the American Cameron LNG terminal in Louisiana. The company signed a memorandum with the other owners of the terminal - Sempra Infrastructure (50.2%), Mitsui & Co., Ltd. (16.6%), and Japan LNG Investment (16.6%).

"The expansion project includes the development of the fourth line with a production capacity of 6.75 million tons per year (9.25 billion cubic meters) and a 5% increase of the current 13.5 million tons (18.5 billion cubic meters) per year of the first three lines for reconstruction account," TotalEnergies reported.

Such projects are becoming popular as European countries try to reduce their dependence on russian gas by importing more LNG.

TotalEnergies said that in recent years the company has become the leading exporter of US LNG, most of which is exported to Europe. The company added that it aims to further expand its presence in the US to meet the growing demand for LNG in Europe.
